Olin College is now approved by the INS to issue I-20 forms (student visas) and seeks a multicultural presence on campus by enrolling a diverse student body, including those with significant international experience.

The Olin College student body is limited to 5% non-US citizens; therefore, approximately four non-US citizens may matriculate in a given year. US Permanent Residents and Green Card holders, however, are not included in this limit.

Application for Admission

There is no separate application for non-US citizens – our application process and standards are the same for all applicants, regardless of their residency status. There is, however, a nonrefundable application fee of $80 for non-US citizens.

NOTE: If your academic record is in a language other than English, it should be accompanied by an official translation and verified by a counselor or school official to be true copies of the original. This is also true for supporting documents such as required letters of recommendation. If you are preparing for the International Baccalaureate or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) A-level examinations, please send your expected exam results.

The application review process will conclude by late January. Approximately 180 top applicants will be selected as “Candidates” and invited to campus to participate in one of our two Candidates’ Weekends in late February and early March. No matter where you live, all Candidates are required to attend one of the weekends! If you live outside the United States and are invited to Candidates' Weekend, we will reserve space for you during the second Candidates' Weekend (unless you tell us otherwise) in order to accommodate the time needed to obtain a travel visa. See the Admission Process for more details about the application process and Candidates' Weekends.

Please keep in mind that international mail service can be quite slow, and we strongly urge applicants living outside the United States to mail their application documents to Olin well in advance of our December 1 application deadline. It is in your best interest to ensure that materials arrive in a timely matter to avoid delaying the review of your application. We highly recommend that you (and/or your school) utilize an international courier service to send us your application materials.

Standardized Testing

All applicants, both native and non-native English speakers, are required to submit the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing as well as SAT Subject Test scores in Math (Level 1 or 2) and a science subject of your choice. Applicants who live in countries where the SAT and ACT are not offered will be considered without a full set of required test scores on a case-by-case basis.

The TOEFL is not required as part of the application process, although those scores can be helpful when reviewing the applications of non-native speakers. We do not have minimum score requirements, but many of our strong applicants score above 260 on the computer-based test.

All classes at Olin are taught in English, so proficiency is a necessary prerequisite for admission to the College. Therefore, all students are expected to be fluent in written and spoken English prior to arriving on campus.

Your testing results must be sent to Olin College directly from the testing agency; scores that appear on your school transcript will not be considered official.  Our SAT code is 2824, the ACT code is 1883 and our TOEFL code is 9008.

You may find more information and register for the SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests online at www.collegeboard.com, the ACT at www.act.org and the TOEFL at www.ets.org/toefl.

Olin Scholarship/Financial Aid

The Olin College full-tuition scholarship is awarded to all admitted students - regardless of what country they call home! However, there is no additional need-based financial aid available for foreign students as most are not eligible to file the FAFSA (see the FAFSA website to determine eligibility). For more information about our estimated cost of attendance, please see Costs & Financial Aid.
