Rising Senior Rebecca Getto is spending this summer learning more about Israel...and life. Becca is a pre-med student who is gaining medical experience working as an emergency first responder while taking full advantage of her Birthright experience. Just yesterday she went on her first CPR call, where her team restored the pulse of a patient! Needless to say, she was thrilled and clearly feeling she was heading in the right direction.
"...let me take a step back and introduce myself. If you couldn't tell already, I am a nerd. More specifically; I am a bioengineering student and an aspiring doctor studying at Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts. I am a dreamer. I am about to embark on the journey of a lifetime, taking the first steps to move to a new country and start a new life. I am an Israel addict. Last summer I agreed, only after some convincing, to go on Birthright with three of my friends from middle school. I honestly wasn't expecting much from the trip because I had been to Israel before with my 8th grade class from Solomon Schechter, but I figured it would be a fun reunion and it was free so why not! From the very first moment I landed in Israel, my expectations were totally blown out of the water! Experiencing Israel as a young adult with 45 of my new best friends, both American and Israeli, by my side was truly life changing. Taglit brought Israel to life for me. No longer simply the subject of history books and sensationalized news reporting, Israel became real, a vibrant country with a diverse and eclectic culture and the most passionate people I have ever met. From the second I set foot in Israel last August, I knew my life would never be the same." - Becca Getto
Feel free to enjoy Becca's blog where she talks about what brought her to Israel, the people she has met, all she has learned of the language and culture - and what she is seeing and feeling in this beautiful yet complex country.
