Monthly Update from the Crew

East Hall Construction Update: December 2004 - January 2005

Construction of East Hall continues to move along at a good pace. The design and construction teams are working together and managing the routine and unexpected issues well.

Following is an overview of the project status:

  • Exterior Building – The masonry work is complete and the majority of windows have been installed. There were a couple of window-related problems that caused some delays, but solutions have been developed and the work is progressing nicely. The bulk of the roofing work is complete, with only a small amount of the lead coated copper left to be installed. The lead coated copper wall sheathing and aluminum channel installation is progressing steadily toward completion.
  • Interior – The upper floors of the north wing are nearing completion and the finish work for the ceiling, painting, plumbing, and electrical is underway. The upper floors of the east and west wings are following behind with most of the drywall and taping completed, ceiling work underway, and electrical and plumbing rough-in work nearly completed. Work on the first floor of the building in all wings is progressing. This work on the first floor will be completed as the contractors work their way out of the building. All stairs and most of the mechanical equipment have been installed. The building is now connected to permanent power through the campus distribution loop and being heated using hot water from the central plant to a temporary distribution system. Installation of tel/data cabling is well underway. A commissioning agent has been retained and has commenced work on this project.
  • Site work – The majority of the underground utility work has been completed and the retaining walls have been installed. This work, as well as the landscaping will be on hold until the weather breaks this spring.
  • Other items – Furniture design was completed and all furniture has been ordered for installation in late April. Signage and lock systems design were completed and fabrication will begin soon.

Schedule
