James Bowen is a lifelong entrepreneur who has worked at early stage ventures in the public and private sector in a variety of industries. Currently, he is co-founder and Partner of Vertex Energía, a developer and investor in 150MW ($200M) of renewable energy projects in Latin America. He serves on the Board of Advisors for several early stage technology companies and is the Industry Champion for the Energy and Cleantech sector at MassChallenge.
Previously, he was the Director of Business Development at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) where he helped direct the government agency’s activities to open new markets and create business opportunities for the state’s 5,000 clean energy companies. Prior to MassCEC, Mr. Bowen founded a company that imported fresh produce from Mexico, worked as a researcher on environmental issues at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and was an M&A due diligence consultant for large-scale private equity acquisitions at Stax, Inc.
Mr. Bowen is also a board member at the Metropolitan (Greater Boston) Area Planning Council. He serves on Massport’s Latin American Task Force to promote new direct flights from Logan Airport and was selected as a Mentor with the USAID-funded Red Nacional de Mentores de Mexico. Mr. Bowen is fluent in business-level Spanish.
