James Bowen is a lifelong entrepreneur who has worked at early stage ventures in the public and private sector in a variety of industries. He is an active mentor in the Boston-area startup ecosystem and is a frequent speaker at entrepreneurship events around the U.S. and internationally.
Currently, he is the co-founder of Energetic Insurance, a venture-backed FinTech startup building technology-enabled risk management products to unlock exponential growth in the commercial & industrial solar energy market. Energetic Insurance is backed by the U.S. Department of Energy “Sunshot” Program and won the FinTech category for the 2017 Boston Startup Challenge. Prior to Energetic, James was the co-founder and Partner of Vertex Energía México, a developer and investor in 200 MW of renewable energy projects in Latin America.
James was part of the founding team as Director of Business Development at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) where he helped direct the government agency’s activities to open new markets and create business opportunities for the state’s 5,000 clean energy companies. Prior to MassCEC, James founded a company that imported fresh produce from Mexico, worked as a researcher on environmental issues at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and was an M&A due diligence consultant for large-scale private equity acquisitions at Stax, Inc.
James serves on the Board of Advisors for several early stage technology companies and is the Industry Champion for the Energy and Cleantech sector at MassChallenge. He speaks fluent, business-level Spanish.
