Our academic advising system facilitates students' academic and personal development throughout their educational careers. Each student has a faculty member as an adviser, an 'advising family' consisting of that adviser and her/his advisees, and an 'extended advising family' made up of three faculty members and their student advisees. Advising meetings occur frequently during students' first few weeks and approximately monthly thereafter.
Advisers offer helpful guidance throughout each student's educational journey. They help students identify and articulate their educational goals. Advisers act as sounding boards for any number of issues in a student's life, including how to balance curricular and extracurricular activities. Advisers have solid relationships with their advisees enabling them to recognize academic or other problems early and direct students to appropriate institutional resources quickly.
Advising at Olin is coordinated through the Office of Student Life by the Assistant Dean for Advising.
Olin students have full access to Babson College's health services, including: diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, evaluation and treatment of injuries, gynecological care, and administration of immunizations and allergy injections.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires students to be covered by a comprehensive health insurance program. Accordingly, the College makes available an accident and illness insurance program to meet the standards set by the Commonwealth through Aetna Student Health. Information on the program may be obtained at www.aetnastudenthealth.com using policy number 812803.
The Office of Post Graduate Planning offers full-scale career services for seniors and undergraduates. Located on the third floor of the Campus Center, its facilities include a comprehensive website offering an extensive database of employer-posted job and internship opportunities, a Resource Center, three interview rooms, and fax and landlines for students to use when sending applications or interviewing. Post Graduate Planning hosts job and internship fairs, employer and graduate school information sessions and on-campus interviews, career exploration workshops, and many more activities that help students find the best opportunities, the next logical step toward success. Olin students may confidentially seek psychotherapy and psychiatric services with Olin's consulting psychologists or psychiatrist. Olin covers the costs of services, which are billed anonymously to the Office of Student Life.
An abundance of opportunities for religious observance are available to Olin students. The Babson Glavin Family Chapel is an interdenominational house of worship with a number of weekly services available to students, including Catholic services, Islamic prayer, Protestant services and Shabbat services. Students may also choose to involve themselves with any of the dozens of denominational houses of worship in the area.
