Andrew Coats, a US Patent holder, finds great satisfaction in watching something he's created work. “I need to fulfill my desire to create,” he says. “I jump at any opportunity to solve a problem in a unique way.”
Andrew recalls “I came to Olin because it seemed to be a unique chance to learn engineering in a hands-on and immersive way—I have not been disappointed.” He is a mechanical engineering major, but adds that “Olin has helped me explore and form a passion for entrepreneurship.” Upon graduation Andrew hopes to work for a start-up consumer or industrial design company and then go on to obtain his MBA.
While at Olin, outside of the exciting class projects, Andrew has lead and worked in the Foundry, Olin's student business incubator. “Through the Foundry I have had a chance to explore, first hand, starting a business” says Andrew. “I have worked closely with engineering and business advisors to understand how to marry my passion for engineering practically with business.”
