While Olek is passionate about computers, his interests don't stop there. “I love physics, photography, cinematography, skiing, materials science and metallurgy.”
For Aleksander Lorenc of Harrington Park, New Jersey, coming to Olin was destiny.
“Since I was little, my mom has called me Olinek, which means 'little Olin' in Polish,” he says. “After researching Olin I discovered the learning methods used here fit me perfectly. At Olin everything is taught in the form of projects. We solve problems relating to the real world.”
Olinek (who now goes by Olek) is passionate about computers and science. During high school he started his own company, Olosoft and was able to put his computer abilities to the test in “real world” doing freelance graphic design, web design, programming, database design, networking, security, and hardware work.
While Olek is passionate about computers, his interests don't stop there. “I am interested in many very different things with equal passion,” he admits. “I love physics, photography, cinematography, skiing, materials science and metallurgy.”
Olek has continued pursuing his passions through Olin's co-curricular program. “I am involved in two co-curriculars this semester—Origami and Making a Short Film on a Micro Budget,” he says. “The film co-curricular is really cool because we have one semester to come up with an idea and go through the entire movie production process with a very small budget.”
With his many diverse interests, engineering seems the perfect major for Olek, who claims “engineering is not just a major, but a way of thinking. It provides an analytical and systematic approach to the real world.”
After graduation, Olek hopes to get an MBA, found a software company and own a small house in his parents' native country, Poland.
