While Joe excelled in his science and math classes, he also followed his artistic passions, participating in sculpture competitions and building an Art-Cart.
As a high school student in Texas, Joe Kendall's many interests and accomplishments separated him easily from others in his class. While he excelled in his science and math classes, he also followed his artistic passions, topping students throughout Houston in a sculpture competition and building an Art-Cart. Adding to his growing list of interests, he also became fluent in German.
Upon visiting Olin College, Joe was struck by the welcoming atmosphere of the college, and especially by the excitement of the students. He is still fascinated by the “renaissance engineer” idea that the college has – that of producing well-rounded graduates with a variety of interests, skills, and experiences. Adding to that Olin's accessible facilities and innovative curriculum, Joe's college choice was easy.
As an Olin engineer, Joe has already thrown himself into the community, serving on CORe (Council of Olin Representatives) as an area representative, joining several clubs, and thoroughly enjoying his new deign and engineering classes. In traditional Olin fashion, he wants to let the school leave a mark on him, but won't let the opportunity pass by to leave his mark on the new school. He hopes that by having his opinions heard on even the smallest issues, he will be able to shape the way engineering is taught to the coming generations of students.
As for Joe's future, he plans to pursue architecture following his Olin education, combining his artistic and engineering passions. However, too dynamic to be held down to one thing, he is also considering teaching English for a year in Japan following his graduation.
