RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Over a 10-week period, schools report recycling and trash data which are then ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. With each week's reports and rankings, participating schools watch how their results benchmark against other schools and use this to rally their campus communities to reduce and recycle more.
Congratulations! Four top ten finishes for Olin College! That's right, the Olin community has received high marks in four different categories for RecycleMania 2010. This truly is a demonstration of the extraordinary community we have and our high regard for environmental sustainability.
Olin College has competed in RecycleMania for the past two years. We came in second place in the Grand Champion category in 2009, second only to Cal State - San Marcos. We had a top ten finish in four other categories. Our local competition this year includes Babson, Brandeis, MIT and WPI.
A list of the materials that can be recycled is below this message.
