Dear Fellow Members of the Olin Community:

As you know by now, President Miller (Olin’s first employee!) plans to step down as of June 30, 2020, after 21 years leading the College. While we all look forward to celebrating Olin’s achievements under Rick’s leadership over the coming year, we also must now turn our attention to finding the right person to serve as the next President of this unique institution.

One of the most important responsibilities of any college’s Board of Trustees is to select the President. I want you to know that the Olin Board will approach this task with the utmost consideration for the importance of “getting it right” within the context and culture that makes Olin so special. We are committed to conducting a search process that is transparent, has multiple opportunities for community engagement, and is inclusive of Olin’s many constituencies.

With that in mind, I am delighted to share the news that Trustee Beverly Wyse P’15 has agreed to Chair the Presidential Search Committee. Bev is a former senior executive at Boeing and has been a member of the Olin Board for five years. You may have met her during one of her many visits to campus while her son, Elliott, attended Olin, or at the Dialog and Donuts event last October.

One of Beverly’s first tasks as Chair of the Presidential Search Committee will be selecting a Vice Chair from among the members of Olin’s faculty. Together they will develop a process for selecting additional members of the Olin community to serve on the committee, interview and select an executive search firm to assist with the search, and develop an overall timeline for the effort before the important work of the Committee gets underway.

Bev is committed to maintaining strong communications with the Olin community regarding the progress of the search throughout the process and will be sharing more details on all these efforts soon.

I have been involved with Olin for over a decade, since my wife and I came to campus in 2008 to drop off our son, Connor ’12. Having first served as a parent volunteer and Parent Advisory Board (PAB) member, and since 2011 as a Trustee, I know that Olin is a very special place, and I believe there is no one better qualified to lead the search for our next President than Beverly.

She enjoys the complete confidence of the Board in leading this important effort, and we are committed to providing Bev and the Search Committee our full support. I ask the entire Olin community to do the same as we work together to find Rick’s successor.

In the meantime, questions or suggestions regarding the search can be directed to Beverly or me via the email:

Thank you,

Ken Stokes P’12
