Hello there! I am Filippos Lymperopoulos and I am a first year student at Olin College. As an international student I have experienced several things for the first time here in the United States time that include my first Slurpee, "The First Greek Chipotle meal", "Midnight 7/11" and a lot of other stories that will posted in upcoming blog entries. The most interesting story that I would like to share with you is that of my first "Trick or Treat", or, in other words, "Trick or Greek" experience.
I had heard several rumors surrounding this event and always tried to relate to it with allusions to movies I had seen back in Greece. Yet, the experience would be totally different when I experienced it on first hand.hallo
It was a Thursday night and I had been working for almost 4 hours on a lab paper. I was tired, yet I was driven by the passion of electrical circuits and, therefore, I wanted to finish the assignment and then go hang out with friends. I ultimately finished my homework, proving once more that Olin is the second college where students study the most, yet, enjoying it to the fullest on the same time.
Josh came to me while I was packing up, shouting "Trick or treat" several times. I turned around and was curious what he meant. I then realized it was Halloween. Without a second thought I jumped out of my seat and dressed as a "Greek tourist". I know, you could have guessed that but I was unprepared for it, I had to come up with something!
As a result, a group of 6 Oliners headed outside of West Hall and went to the city of Wellesley and Needham to spread the spirit of Halloween. I was the one to hit the first bell and instead of saying "Trick or Treat", I said "Trick or Greek" adding my personal note to the Halloween spirit!
The night proved to be rewarding and once more the great hospitality and friendliness of the people at Olin was amazing. A great environment for students to learn new things through innovative education. I can't get over how happy I am here and how many things I've learned in this place.
