University of Denver Chancellor Rebecca Chopp Named to the Board of Trustees at Olin College

Rebecca Chopp, Ph.D., chancellor at University of Denver (DU), has been named to the Board of Trustees of Olin College. 

Dr. Chopp has had a long and distinguished career in education. She has served as president at two leading institutions, Swarthmore College and Colgate University. Chopp also served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University, and as dean at Yale Divinity School.

Most recently, in September 2014, Chopp was named chancellor and professor of religion at the University of Denver. At DU, Chopp led the effort to develop DU IMPACT 2025, a strategic plan focused on the 21st century transformation of knowledge.

At DU, Chopp has dedicated herself to preparing students to be innovative and ethical leaders in their communities and organizations. She is expanding the scope and scale of research, in particular focusing on problem-based, collaborative approaches to learning.

She has a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, an M.Div. from St. Paul School of Theology and a B.A. from Kansas Wesleyan University. The Kansas native has received distinguished awards at each of her alma maters and has received six honorary doctorates from other colleges and universities.

Chopp is also known as an author and editor. She has published more than 50 articles. She has also authored, co-authored or co-edited six books including Remaking College: Innovation and the Liberal Arts (2013).

Chopp has also served on the boards of AACU, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, NSSE, and the President’s Council of the Patriot League.

Chopp is married to Frederick Thibodeau. They have three sons.
