Dr. Chhavi Goenka's research focuses on using spectroscopy to develop minimally invasive methods to study oxygen levels in humans and other mammals in normal and abnormal health or environmental conditions.

Before coming to Olin, she was a research fellow at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital where she was the co-founder of Wellman Anti-Racism Effort and the Wellman Outreach Committee, groups dedicated to increasing equity and access in STEM and adjacent fields. She has also been recognized for her excellence in undergraduate mentoring and outreach. She has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Boston University and has designed optical devices with applications ranging from space physics to healthcare. When she is not teaching her students how to play with light in the lab, she can be found playing a variety of musical instruments or cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
