A Look Back at Candidates' Weekends

Candidates’ Weekends at Olin have just wrapped after three amazing weeks. We were so happy to welcome such an amazing pool of candidates for our Class of 2030!

This unique experience allowed prospective Oliners from across the contiguous US to come to campus and gain first-hand knowledge on what it might be like to attend our college for the next four years. Our international candidates, as well as domestic candidates from AK and HI, attended a wonderful virtual experience to perform at their best and not be impacted by intense jetlag. In both versions of CW, the opportunity to meet passionate students, faculty, and staff at our institution became the highlight of many candidates’ experiences in addition to participating in collaborative challenges.

Hear from the candidates themselves about why this opportunity is so impactful:

  • “I was able to see firsthand the breadth of academics and activities at Olin, from the diversity within engineering…to its AHSE classes, and the wide range of co-curriculars and clubs. I spoke with several professors who were genuinely passionate about their classes and were very open and excited to shaping new courses around students’ interests within their fields.” 👩🏽‍🏫

  • “People were close, welcoming, fun, and genuinely themselves. I felt comfortable right away. It was an amazing experience meeting so many like-minded people in a place where I felt I fit, and being surrounded by people who make me feel like I belong.” 🥇

  • “I was initially drawn in by the academics, but I left hooked by the community with dozens of new, strong friendships that I’m incredibly grateful for. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to attend Candidates Weekend, it meant so much to me.” 👯

  • “Being at Olin reminded me why I started engineering in the first place. Visiting its classes made it clear how intentional the curriculum is and now, having experience with more technical work, seeing how much it actually applies to real-world engineering in comparison to traditional college coursework. It made me realize how much Olin could help me grow into an engineer I’d truly be proud to become.” ⚙️

  • “At Olin, I saw an incredibly rare combination of students who are not only technically strong, but also genuinely excited about and deeply knowledgeable about the things they’re building.” 🤓

  • “I had so much fun (especially during the design challenge) over the last two days, and I truly appreciate how welcomed I felt at Olin's community by both the faculty and the students.” 👋🏼

  • “I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for the kindness and openness with which I was received. This weekend was entirely unexpected and I loved all of it.” 💗

  • “What I loved most about the experience was the opportunity to work with a team and exercise my engineering skills. Completing the beehive design challenge, even under a time constraint, was one of the most fun and spontaneous engineering challenges I've completed in recent times.” 🚀

  • “I [loved] getting to talk with both the current students and faculty about what their favorite parts of Olin were. More than that, I got to actually see those parts of Olin throughout the weekend which was such a wonderful experience.” 🏫
