These are Olin Lives - Extras
Here you'll explore Olin extras; information on our courses and curriculum, the admission process, capstone program, and most importantly, the opportunity to discover how at Olin you'll create an experience all your own.

Your academic experience
at Olin is in your hands...
literally.
We believe in learning by doing, in projects and experiments that teach through trying (and failing), and in the power of human-powered, human-focused collaboration to discover and drive solutions.

Academics at Olin
In the Action from Day 1!
At Olin, every student develops a solid foundation through courses in software, electronics, and mechanical systems engineering. All Olin students take courses in these subjects and work in project teams with students from other disciplines.
Olin’s academic approach emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration, and tackling real-world problems – starting on day one and continuing through students’ capstone experiences.
Olin offers three ABET-accredited degrees:
- Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)
- Mechanical Engineering (ME)
- Engineering (E)
and in addition to creating their own, Olin Engineering majors can choose from several concentrations.

Engineering Capstones
Real Solutions to Real-World Problems
All Oliners complete a yearlong Capstone Experience that applies what they have learned to develop creative solutions to real-world problems.
Olin offers three capstone alternatives.
SCOPE
SCOPE (Senior Capstone Program in Engineering)) is a unique industry-university collaboration, and the culminating experience of an Olin College student's education. Over the course of a full academic year, seniors work in multi-disciplinary teams to provide innovative solutions to a company’s real-world problems.

While at Olin, my taste for discovery developed a whole new facet!
During my SCOPE project I worked with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) to design a virtual reality system to help remotely operated vehicle (ROV) pilots. It was already so cool to be able to test our system in a water tank on campus—it was even cooler to explore like that in the deep sea."

Design Justice Studio (DJS)*
Students work with people in communities around the world to address challenges endemic to poverty and democratize opportunity. Together they create new products and social ventures to reduce burden, increase yields, expand education, improve health, and generate income.
Tech Venture Capstone (TVC)
Students gain professional experience undertaking an authentic, team-based engineering project in the context of a prospective new venture. They gain an understanding of major user pain points and the value of a solution; the market and segmentation; how to go from a prototype to a manufacturable product for a specific customer; and ultimately are prepared to face the challenges of productizing prototypes to match market needs.

Olin College prepares students to become exemplary engineering innovators who recognize needs, design solutions and engage in creative enterprises for the good of the world. As such, we practice a holistic admission process, reviewing applications for both academic achievement and potential as well as personal qualities that would make the applicant a good fit for the Olin education and community.

The beauty of Olin is...
it allows you to explore and try so many things while building skills that are universally applicable."
