Tamás Regan ’28

Regan, who is a Mechanical Engineering major, will spend his fall semester at the University of Glasglow in Glasgow, Scotland. He is one of 2,100 American undergraduate students from all 50 states who received the scholarship from among 12,200 applicants, the highest number in the program’s 25-year history for any application cycle.

“Tamás is a go-getter who consistently stayed on top of his study abroad application and took initiative to actively seek knowledge, whether it was about major, country or seeking scholarships,” said Xong Sony Yang, director of International Student Support and Intercultural Programs. “This will translate beautifully as a student studying abroad. Tamás is curious about the nation's people and the excitement to gain new knowledge on a passionate major.”

Gilman Scholars will represent the United States in over 100 countries, returning to communities across the United States with the global networks, foreign language skills, and professional expertise needed to support U.S. economic and national security interests.

Established by the U.S. Congress, the Gilman Scholarship is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education. Gilman Scholars are U.S. undergraduate students with high financial need who receive federal Pell Grants. The next application cycle will launch in August 2026.
