NEWS: Tolulope Oshinowo '23, Fulbright Winner, Conducts Groundbreaking Research on Climate Accountability

Olin College alum Tolulope Oshinowo ('23), an Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) graduate, was awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant in the 2022-2023 competition to conduct research at the University of Toronto as part of the Fulbright Canada program.

In 2024, Tolulope began his Fulbright research focused on financed emissions, working with city leadership to encourage major financial institutions to be more transparent and accountable for their climate impact.

That research culminated in a report, Bay Street’s Carbon Footprint Rivals Nations, calling for increased transparency in the financial sector’s emissions. The report has already gained considerable traction, as noted in publications like the Climate Observatory and National Observer.

He's since completed his Fulbright and is now applying his global experiences in post-graduate work.

Reflecting on the application process, Tolulope shared, "It was daunting at first, but starting early and having a supportive team of faculty really helped me put together a cohesive application. Reaching out to professors at the University of Toronto also boosted my confidence."

Tolulope is now completing a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) at Princeton, where he continues to build on the experiences and insights gained through his Fulbright. He says the Fulbright program expanded his awareness of global opportunities and helped him connect with incredible people in his field.

His advice for future applicants? "Go for it! I never thought I’d get it until I did."

Olin College has a strong record of producing successful Fulbright applicants.

In the 2023-2024 cycle, Olin was recognized as a Top Producing Institution for U.S. students, underscoring the college's commitment to global engagement and academic excellence.
